Compact Planum heavy duty hinge from SIMONSWERK
The Compact Planum is one of the latest additions to the VARIANT® heavy duty door hinge range from SIMONSWERK. With its 3D receiver installed in the door leaf, this new VARIANT Compact hinge system offers an ideal solution to the trend for narrow frame constructions. When used with slim line frame designs, the Planum version with its reduced, elegant knuckle, just 15 mm in diameter, and a high load capacity of 160 kg, further underlines the door element’s straight-lined appearance for residential and heavy-duty doors.
The Compact hinge-and-receiver unit for use on functional doors can withstand high loads up to 200kg and has an elegant cover for the receiver in the door leaf providing the finishing touch to this innovative hinge solution. Furthermore, the VARIANT Compact can also be used for the renovation of existing doors. Replacing the receiver in the door leaf means that existing frames can continue to be used, saving both time and money, and enables the door element to be fitted with a modern hinge system.

Forticrete launches new range of Blue blocks
Forticrete has extended its range of Dense Concrete Masonry with the addition of a highly unusual new Blue block, developed to create non-distracting internal finishes within sports halls.

Finishes featured in the Sports Blue block range include Fairfaced, which provides a structural product and finish in one, Shot-blasted, which provides a weathered appeal, the popular Burnished Venezia and Polished Florentine which is used to create expanses of reflective walls.
John Lambert, general manager at Forticrete, commented: “In recent years, a growing number of architects and specifiers have displayed an increasing appetite for blue masonry to provide the required colour, surface texture and reflectance value within sports halls across the country.
“Showcasing our commitment to innovation in architectural concrete block development, the aesthetically pleasing finish of the new Blue Block means that it isn’t exclusive for use within sports halls, but provides architects with lower on-going maintenance costs and specifiers with the flexibility to create awe-inspiring corridors, offices and classrooms.”

VM ZINC launches engraved facade
In response to feedback from over 400 international architects, VMZINC has once again pioneered a new development with AZENGAR®, the first rolled zinc façade and roofing material to be engraved. Its subtle yet distinctive surface has a matt appearance which is unaffected by fingerprints and therefore ideal for both exterior and interior use.
AZENGAR is pigment-free and manufactured in 0.7mm, 0.8mm and 1.0mm thicknesses using an entirely new process. It is the lightest shade of zinc available and unlike uniform, pre-weathered shades such as QUARTZ-ZINC® and PIGMENTO, its engraving causes delicate variations in light refraction.
