Dulux Select Decorators Help Charity Makeover

Helping to transform the Headquarters of Down Syndrome Education International.

A group of 18 Dulux Select Decorators have donated their time to make over the Sarah Duffen centre in Portsmouth, the headquarters of Down Syndrome Education International.

Down Syndrome Education International was founded in 1979 and works tirelessly to improve education for children with Downs Syndrome.

Headed up by Dulux Select Decorator, Sean Kelly, the decorators transformed the research room, library and office of the centre, which is used by children under the age of five. The team of Dulux Select Decorators travelled from all over the country to help with the makeover, with some coming from as far afield as Manchester, Peterborough and Somerset.

Touched by the generosity of the team of Dulux Select Decorators - who gave up their time for free, even in this challenging economic climate - Dulux Trade donated over 100 litres of paint free of charge. The donation included the industry leading environmentally sustainable paints Ecosure Eggshell, Ecosure Vinyl Matt and Dulux Diamond Satinwood.

Dulux Trade even brought in the expertise of one of the new Dulux Design Service designers, Jennie Fynn, who helped with the project by devising the relaxing colour scheme. Pale lime green and fuschia were used in the library, the research room was painted pale green and yellow, and the small office was painted pale yellow and soft green to co-ordinate with the reception area.

Stacey Hunt from Downs Syndrome Education International, said: “Everyone at DownsEd has been overwhelmed by the kindness and dedication of the Dulux Select Decorators working at our centre in Portsmouth. The rooms look superb, and it has made such a huge difference to the environment we work in. We are lucky to have such a bright and inviting centre that visitors and staff will enjoy for many years to come.”

The Dulux Select Decorators scheme is a UK wide service promoting Dulux-endorsed professional decorators to homeowners, offering a high level of workmanship and a guarantee backed by Dulux. The scheme has been running for over 12 years and there are more than 1000 decorators in the network. To become a Dulux Select Decorator, professionals must meet certain criteria and pass an assessment, which includes offering customers excellent service.

The Dulux Design Service was launched earlier this year, offering the chance to work with a professional interior designer without the fear of runaway costs or ‘designer overkill.’ With three levels of service on offer, it is a cost-effective way to get a fantastic result when re-decorating a room.
