Durapipe uses Friatherm system for Westfield London
Friatherm serves stores at Westfield London
The Durapipe pipework was pre-fabricated, with six metre frames including the Friatherm system for the cold water constructed off-site; these modules were then simply fitted together, significantly reducing labour time and costs during the installation process.
Quality was the number one priority for every element of Westfield London from the design of the stores and standard of restaurants through to the construction materials. The pipework was no exception and Friatherm was selected due to its high performance properties coupled with speed of installation benefits.
The purpose designed plastic pipework system is completely limescale free and corrosion resistant, offering a 50 year working life, while the speed of installation and the fact that no power source or ‘hot works’ are needed, means that Friatherm offered significant cost savings over copper and other metal pipework solutions.
The prestigious shopping centre is the largest inner city complex of its type in Europe and the four year project has been one of the biggest retail construction developments; it has taken over 13 million man hours to complete, has used enough concrete to fill 117 Olympic sized swimming pools and has created 7,000 new jobs.
Westfield London is now open and its five anchor stores of Debenhams, Next, Marks and Spencer, House of Fraser and Waitrose, along with hundreds of other luxury, premium and high street retailers from more than 15 countries, expect to attract more than 21 million visitors each year.
