Kedel Company Profile

Kedel is based in Colne, Lancashire and specialises in the manufacture and supply of recycled plastic products. The product range includes recycled plastic lumber, drainage and ground reinforcement, garden furniture, planters, raised garden bed surrounds, compost tumblers and compost bins. The range of recycled plastic products is highly durable, attractive and will not rot or need painting. Products are resistant to mould growth and will maintain their appearance for around fifty years.

Every product is produced from unwanted plastic waste, which has been carefully processed utilising methods that do not add to global warming significantly. Many of the products are designed to last for up to 50 years without the need for paint or varnish. By recycling this unwanted plastic, Kedel is reducing the amount of waste added to landfill sites and reduces the carbon footprint of its clients. Plastic waste causes a lot of environmental damage which affects land, fish, animals and humans and takes many years to degrade.

The product range includes:

Garden Furniture

The garden furniture range incorporates benches and picnic tables. This furniture has been thoughtfully designed to not only look good, but also to be functional, robust and easy to maintain and assemble. These products are completely weatherproof and rot proof and will last for many years. The range includes:

  • 2 or 3 seater benches
  • 2 or 3 seater sports benches suitable for wet areas, changing rooms and sports areas
  • Picnic table with folding seats

There is a range of high quality gardening products including compost bins and tumblers, planters and raised beds, all manufactured with recycled plastic.

  • The Compost Tumbler/compost bin; 'The Compost Creator' is manufactured from used drums from the food industry (the drums may have scratches and scuffs related to their previous usage). This innovative design is a market leader incorporating features such as rapid decomposition of waste, nutrient retention and moisture and heat are evenly distributed by the rotating tumble action. There is no need for heavy forking and they are simple to put together with 220 litre capacity and a tilting action for easy removal of compost.
  • Planters are available in four colour options, in sizes 400 x 400 x 370mm, 600 x 600 x 370mm and 800 x 800 x 370mm. These outdoor planters allow users to create beautiful and unique garden features. Unlike wooden equivalents, these planters will not rot and do not leech arsenic compounds into the soil, which are often found in wood preservatives.
  • Raised beds are suitable for growing vegetables and creative landscaping. Available in small, medium and large versions, with single, double and triple tiers of height, the raised beds come in four colour options. Bespoke designs can be made upon request.

Drainage and Ground Reinforcement

Kedel has designed a drainage and ground reinforcement solution which is an environmentally sustainable alternative to asphalt or paving solutions. The DGR system improves water drainage and halts ground erosion from walkers, cyclists, vehicles, animals or land migration. This tough, interlocking grid system is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable and incorporates benefits including:

  • Fast and easy installation
  • 16 tonne axle load
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Non-slip and crack-proof
  • Weatherproof, frost and UV stable
  • Non expanding
  • Semi or permanent reinforcement
  • Aesthetic grass or gravel infill
  • Suited to river and roadside embankments, paths, vehicular access, green roofs, infiltration basins, driveways, outdoor events, construction sites, roadway extensions and emergency access routes

Recycled Plastic Lumber

Kedel's recycled plastic lumber products are extruded from either recycled polystyrene or recycled high density polyethylene (HDPE). Ideal for construction and DIY projects, the plastic wood requires virtually no maintenance and is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional wood, concrete and even metal. Key features include:

  • A range of lengths available
  • Available in a variety of RAL colours
  • Can be sawn, nailed, screwed or glued
  • Less flammable than timber
  • No need to paint
  • 50 year lifespan
  • Lowers carbon footprint of any building project

Schools Eco-Packages

Kedel offers schools a choice of three eco-packages that are designed to serve as teaching aids for eco-living and education. The packages incorporate at least one of the following items; a compost tumbler, a raised bed and a planter. The eco-packages support the requirements for Eco-School and Green Flag awards and can be integrated into the Sustainable Schools Curriculum. They aid outdoor learning, encourage healthy eating initiatives and offer hands on experience in reducing waste, reusing and recycling. The key product features include:

  • 100% recycled plastic
