The Platform Lift Company designs vertical transportation elegance for iconic London building

Visitors to the award-winning Sea Containers Events building in London can travel to the rooftop bar space in style, in a UK-manufactured lift from The Platform Lift Company.

Sea Containers House, on vibrant South Bank, is a stone’s throw from the City of London. Originally designed as a hotel but instead used as an office building, it now has stylish events spaces on three high floors including terraces offering views across London.

The Platform Lift Co was contacted by Structure Tone Limited to design two platform type lifts that would not impact the London skyline from any other building. The company’s platform lift designers got to work with the architects and project managers to come up with some very contemporary designs giving the disabled user a “wow” feeling travelling up into the luxurious roof top bar.

After many meetings the Platform Lift Company’s British style type lift with a fully glazed shaft and a colour that was in keeping with the rest of the building was accepted and put into manufacture. The next challenge was to get the lift into position and installed onto the 14th floor … this was the easy part as the British style platform lift comes completely flat packed and can be manhandled easily by two engineers.

The British Style lift range is available in internal and external models. It requires no pit and can travel up to 7 metres within its own structure-supported enclosure. It can be found in many retail, health, education, housing and public buildings.
