Commercial Air Conditioning

Air conditioning has now become ubiquitous in the workplace with the majority of employees expecting their offices to be air conditioned. As an employer, an office that provides a properly ventilated environment can encourage great productivity; without it health and statutory obligations may be compromised.

In a workplace that is too warm or where is a shortage of fresh air it is likely to affect the performance of employees and thereby incur costs in the long run. Offices increasingly have high heat load which is generated by computers, photo copiers and lighting, so it is becoming a pre-requisite to air condition offices to keep staff and visitors comfortable.

To meet these, now, typical heating ventilation and air -conditioning (HVAC) requirements there are many types of system available; each of these systems can have different types of internal fan coils including:

  • Split systems: these have one external condensing unit and one internal evaporator fan coil, connected by one pipe run and supplying one open area to one set temperature.
  • Twin, triple and double twin split systems: these have one external condensing unit and two, three or four internal evaporator fan coils, connected by one branched pipe run and supplying one open area to one set temperature point.
  • Multi split systems: have one external condensing unit and numerous internal evaporator fan coils, connected by either one branched pipe run with control boxes (or several single pipe runs) supplying several separate areas to several separate set points with the system fan coils in either heating or cooling mode.
  • Heat pump VRV/VRF (see 1) systems: have one or multi condensing units connected and numerous internal fan coils, connected by one branched pipe run and supplying numerous separate areas to numerous separate set points with the system fan coils in either heating or cooling mode.
  • Heat recovery VRV/VRF (see 1) systems: have one or multi condensing units connected and numerous internal fan coils, connected by one branched pipe run with refrigerant control boxes and supplying several separate areas to separate set points with the system able to have fan coils heating and cooling simultaneously.

In addition to the listed system types above there are also numerous different types of fan coils including; Ceiling Cassette Units, Ceiling Concealed Ducted Units, Under Ceiling Units, Wall Mounted Units, Floor Mounted Units, Concealed Floor Mounted units.
