Restoration project uses Addastone surfacing to stunning effect

Drake’s Place, Plymouth, forms part of a £1.4 million restoration project made possible with input from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Big Lottery Fund and investment from Plymouth University. New pathways were needed to improve access and Addagrip approved contractor, Resin Bonded Surfacing of Doncaster, was chosen to carry out the installation of 750m² of Addastone Resin Bonded Surfacing.

A 2-5mm Corn Flint aggregate was selected for the pathway areas. The project also included restoring features such as fountains and the Watch House.

Working to a tight deadline, the team took advantage of a break in a spell of wet weather to install the Addastone Resin Bonded System. First, the existing surface had to be dried out, following the earlier heavy rain.

Dave Tweedie, of Resin Bonded Surfacing, said: “We faced a challenge to get the job done on time but our team based at our Plymouth office managed to get the surface installed over a 1½ day period.”

The official opening is scheduled for June 13th.

Another high profile showcase for Addagrip products was the resin bound pathway used on the Guruve stand at RHS Chelsea Flower Show last month.

Addastone TP Trent Pea was selected and Addagrip is grateful to Long Rake Spar Co Ltd for donating the aggregate for the path.

Guruve promotes the very best in contemporary African art and sculpture – with the sculptures displayed at the stand on plinths provided by Chilstone. The combined efforts won four stars for the Guruve stand.
